HELLO!!!! (a.k.a. foreword)
Welcome! Bienvenue! Willkommen! Bienvenidos! Degemer mat! I’m glad to see you here! I didn’t know if you would come or not. Well, it’s pretty good news, we’ll start in a moment, but let me first introduce a couple of things. Thanks to the title, you may have already guessed what this site contains: an introduction to the statistical program R.
I have had fantastic teachers that drew me into this world where pointing and clicking were no longer necessary. While at first disconcerted, thanks to their knowledge and humor, I soon felt at home on this screen containing nothing but red and blue lines! I’ll try in the following webpages to give an introduction to R while doing my best to get a smile or two from you.
While originally targeted toward biologists, I hope this site will be of interest to and help you even if baby pandas and weird plants are not your thing. You will find here all the basics and only the basics that will allow you to start take a full control of your fate in R. Here and there, you will also find exercises to sharpen your skills.
If you feel like this site was of any help, made you chuckle at least once, you can help keep the lights on by donating right here!
R might seem a little bit “dry” at first, but it doesn’t have to be! So, let’s jump in!
Florent Bled
Here is the general presentation we will find here:
General comments, bad jokes and puns will be written with a black font.
Instructions to R are presented in red (as it appears in the program itself) with a Courier New font.
R responses will be indicated in a blue Courier New font (as in the program itself).
And finally, once in a while, you might find pieces of code commented, written in a green courier font.
Got it? Yep? Ok, let’s start now then! (Please contain yourself; don’t let the excitement overwhelm you…)
